Recognitions/Corporate Awards of Excellence
Received by the BCOS
The Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State
through its three channels (Radio O-Y-O, FM
Stereo and Television) has contributed in no
small measure to the socio-economic,
political, cultural, educational,
technological and scientific development of
the nation. It has helped in the promotion
of peace, unity and religious tolerance
among the various groups, and inhabitants of
Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole through its
various programmes and invaluable services
to the members of the public. This
remarkable services and outstanding feat did
riot go unnoticed by individuals' religious
bodies, professional association, community
leaders, associations, non-governmental
organizations, student bodies, traditional
rulers, unions, government international
agencies, corporate bodies and voluntary
service organization as BCOS was given
different kinds of Awards.
Some of Awards numerous to mentioned are
highlighted below.
1. Distinguished supporter of the Back to
Land Agricultural programme in Oyo State
which given to the BCOS by the Ministry of
Agriculture and Natural Resources in 1997.
2. Cleanest Parastatals in Oyo State by the
Oyo State Government in 1997.
3. Shield of Command - The Choice of the
Best by the BCOS Fans Club, Ibadan North
Local Government Chapter in 1997.
4. Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife Junior
Chamber Award of Excellence for BCOS
5. Distinguished Golden Award of Excellence
in Radio and Television
Broadcasting by the National Association of
Botany Students, University of Ibadan.
6. Corporate Award of Excellence - Ivory
Tower of Information Service given to the
BCOS by the Nigerian Universities
Engineering Students Association.
7. Agbasaga of AGS-The Tongue of the Nation.
8. Award of Excellence given to the BCOS by
the Ministry of Health, Oyo State for her
meritorious contribution towards the
promotion of Environmental Health.
9. NIPR Support Award given to BCOS by the
Oyo State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute
of Public Relations for her consistent
support to NIPR on the 16th day of April,
1998.
10. FOMWAN Merit Award given to the BCOS in
recognition of her immense contribution to
FOMWAN on the 17th day of December 1995.
11. NAPES Golden Merit Award for Outstanding
Contribution to Technological Advancement
given to the BCOS by the National
Association of Polytechnic Engineering
Students in 1995.
12. Appreciation Award - given to the BCOS
by Ibadan Doyen Lions Club in appreciation
of BCOS outstanding support for the Club in
1997.
13. Oyo State NUJ Merit Award - Conferment
of Performance Service Honours Award for
Outstanding Performance and Upliftment of
the Image of NUJ on the 2nd day of November
1992.
14. Igbimo Odo Kaaro Oojire - Special Award
of Recognition for being Outstanding Youth
Friendly Organisation on the 5th day of
August, 2001.
15. Oyo State 1996 Merit Award - Best
Parastatals for the Year 1996 by the Oyo
State Government'.
16. Best Television State Station with Care
Vision given to the BCOS by the Care People
Foundation, Ibadan.
17. Certificate of Merit - given to the BCOS
by the Rotary International District 9130 in
recognition and appreciation of BCOS
contribution to the promotion of ideals of
Rotary and for support being given to Rotary
awareness in the District 1994 - 95.
18. Egbe Akekoo Ijinle Yoruba (YOSSAN)
University of Ibadan - Merit Award for the
BCOS in recognition of the Station's
pioneering roles in the Upliftment of Yoruba
Language and culture in 1997/98.
19. Rotary Club of Agodi Ibadan - May 1998
Award of Excellence for being a selfless and
humanitarian Media Service Organisation.
20. Ekotedo Communication Development
Association Award of Excellence for being
easily identifiable with the yearnings of
the public through its presentation of its
educative and sports programmes in the year
2000.
21 .Rotary Club of Ibadan Central (District
9130) Nigeria - Vocational Service Award
1995 for being the best entertaining media
station 1995/96
22. All Nigeria United Nation Students and
Youth Association - Distinguished
Humanitarian Service Award 1995. It was in
recognition of the selfless service of the
Station.
23. Millennium Award of Excellence given to
the BCOS by the Bodija Lions Club for her
outstanding contributions to the alleviation
of the suffering of less privileged and the
growth of Lionism. It was presented on the
21st day of September 2000.
24. National Youth Service Corps - Award of
Excellence in recognition of the service and
contributions of the Corporation to the
growth and ' development of youths in the
society and the Nations at large.
25. Meritorious Award for being the Most
Outstanding Media Station given to the BCOS
by the Federation of Oyo State Students
Union on the 17th day of January, 2002.
26. Nigerian Young Brothers and Sisters in
Islam (NYBROSIS Award of Excellence) in
recognition of BCOS unbiased reporting of
Religious Activities 8th October, 2000.
27. Certificate of Merit by the lyaganku
Rotary Club given to BCOS on the 21st of
November, 1997. .
28. Awo Varsity Literary and English Studies
Society OAU, Ile Ife, Award of Excellence -
14th January, 1989.
29. Association of Preoperative Nursing
Student UCH, Ibadan - Home of Surgical Care
for the Station's contribution to Humanity
and your Excellence Performance 9th June
1999.
30. Professional Association of
Environmental Health Officers of Nigeria,
Oyo State-Award of Excellence given to the
BCOS on the 31st July, 1998.
31 .Special Appreciation Award for
Invaluable contribution to Federal Road
Safety Commission given to BCOS in 1995.
32. Appreciation Award for being Best
Partner to Nigerian Breweries Plc at the NB/BCOS
Xmas Carnival since 1997 till day. The Award
was given by the Management of Nigerian
Breweries Plc on the 31st of December, 2006.
33. Global Exchange British Council and
Voluntary Service Organisation for
successfully hosting Global Exchange
Volunteers in August 2005.
34. Corporate Distinguished Service Award
given by the Nigerian Society of Engineers
Ibadan Branch to BCOS on the'26th day of
November, 2004.
35. UNICEF Distinguished Award of Excellence
for being best media station in the South
West;
Besides the various Awards received by the
Corporation as enumerated above, the Station
has also won various Trophies or Cups from
participating in the numerous Sporting
Competitions or Activities such as NUJ
Soccer Organized Competition in the past.
